Entry Four: Next Stop: My Future Success!
The future...What does it hold for me? Let's throw out some predictions and manifest some success for this girl. Looking forward, I predict that after graduating from LoneStar College and then St. Thomas University, I'll be happily married with a family, a small successful business smack dab in the middle of Texas somewhere. Not bad, right? I can dream big. Too small, you say? Nah. Simple is always better. Now to the part where I manifest it, I mean work on it...
St. John spoke about sustaining success with his eight traits, he recalls how his success plummeted after he lost focus of the mindset that made him successful ("Success is a Continuous Journey"). As I grow as a student and as my future self, I plan to keep applying these traits to my life. Yes, especially through the beautiful chaos of a family and a business. I think Eduardo Briceño's advice will be the one I'll strive to use the most since that format is working well for me now. I'll spend more practice time in the "low-stakes learning zone" gathering feedback from family members, trusted mentors, reliable classmates, or loyal co-workers while making adjustments and repeating what I've learned till I've improved and/or mastered the skills I've chosen.
I like the idea of exploring what future me is capable of. I remember someone using the images of a seed, a sapling, and then a full-grown tree to represent the growth plan needed to be successful, you know, kind of like the cat posters that say "Hang in there!" It just feels like a more appropriate and fitting analogy now and not some kitschy tagline. I like the idea of having a "growth mindset," as Briceño puts it or a perpetual learner as I'd like to visualize myself. Throughout this semester, my mom would check on me while I was doing school and she'd always say, "See yourself past it. Finished. Successful." It always worked, filling me with confidence knowing that I've already completed whatever task will be set before me and I was successful. As I wrap this post up, close your eyes with me, and let's see ourselves past whatever is resting on our shoulders today, this week, this month, or this year. Let's see ourselves as successful and never look back.
